Ajax could help give Leicester City crucial edge over PSV in Europa Conference League

Leicester City face what is their biggest game of the season on Thursday as they look to make it to the semi-final of a European competition for the first time in their history.

City travel to the Netherlands to take on PSV Eindhoven in what is now a winner takes all game. Last week’s first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final ended in a 0-0 draw at the King Power Stadium, meaning that City go into the away leg knowing that a win is needed to make it through to the final four.

Brendan Rodgers sent a hint on the importance of the game by making changes for the weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace. A total of seven players, including the whole of the starting back four from the first leg, were rested.

Despite the changes, City came out as 2-1 winners over the Eagles, thanks to goals from Ademola Lookman and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. It’s a win that also means City will go into the second leg in Eindhoven full of confidence.

Like Rodgers, PSV manager Roger Schmidt also made changes for their league clash in the weekend just gone. The win over RKC Waalwijk saw the Dutch side make five changes to their starting lineup, although they still suffered a significant injury with winger Noni Madueke expected to now miss the second leg against City.

While City return to Premier League action following the game vs PSV, their opponents have another game that they could just have an eye on. Just four days after the game, PSV take on title-rivals Ajax in the final of the KNVB Cup, the equivalent of the FA Cup in England.
