The sunrise spot near Greater Manchester that’s ‘the best thing in the UK’

Watching a spectacular sunrise or sunset is one of nature’s greatest treats. You can’t beat seeing the sky transformed with different colours and there’s something rather peaceful about it too.

Securing a good vantage point to watch the sun come up is key to the experience, and one spot in the Peak District has become renowned for its incredible sunrises. Mam Tor near Edale, around an hour’s drive from Greater Manchester, has drawn visitors from far and wide thanks to its gorgeous sunrise views.

Dozens of videos on TikTok show eager hikers setting alarms in the early hours to ensure they can grab a spot on this iconic hill. User @mattfwx on TikTok posted a video on his recent visit which has amassed 139k likes and 1.5million views. He captioned it: “POV when the view is worth the 3am alarm.”

TikTok user lydiasst_ commented: "110% the best thing we’ve ever done in the UK!” and Paul Caldwell wrote: “definitely on my bucket list”. Another TikTok user, Gareth Cobane, posted a video about his visit, saying that he even saw a “shooting star” while he was there.

TikTok user Claire Tuckwood shared her experience back in May this year.

She said: “I finally did a Mam Tor sunrise. Arrived at Mam Nick car park at half four and it was already starting to rise so I wish I got there about ten past four. It takes around 10 minutes to get to the top so we quickly headed over, you can see it
