The streets where cars get 'windows smashed and paint thrown over them' as locals fume about parking

On streets near a major North West airport, pavements resemble car parks. In a video showing vehicle after vehicle stopped bumper-to-bumper and side-by-side, an exasperated man asks: "How can a kid cross the road?"

This is the situation near Liverpool John Lennon Airport, where residents say streets are becoming inundated with cars 'parking anywhere and everywhere' to avoid paying fees. Amid the frustration, locals are reportedly taking matters into their own hands.

Residents living on Hale Road and Hale Drive, in Speke, say cars have been left with 'smashed windows' and 'paint thrown over them'. It comes after problems with parking have escalated in recent months, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The Echo previously reported how cars and 'illegal taxis' were pulling up at all hours of the day to drop people off at the airport, while others were said to be leaving their cars for weeks on end while they jet away on holiday. Many of these cars have been parked illegally across people's driveways, blocking the public footpath and on the central reservation.

But the problems are said to have escalated in recent months, as cars parked on roads surrounding the airport have had their windscreens smashed or paint thrown over them. Nellie Abbott, who lives in the area, told the Echo while she shares frustration at the parking situation, residents are unable to have guests or family to stay overnight for fear their cars will be vandalised.
