'The snakes are back' Grealish and Rice brutally clamped, rogue fan gets on the pitch and Carsley scores an own goal

A barbed fan banner inside the Aviva branded Jack Grealish and Declan Rice as 'snakes' for turning their back on Ireland to represent England.

Manchester City star Grealish was a standout for Ireland's U21s before switching to the Three Lions while Rice was earmarked as a potential ROI captain after making three appearances before being lured by England into a change of heart. A banner was unfurled before kick-off and it read 'the snakes are back', with a photo of both emblazoned across the front.

It came amid a series of bizarre incidents before kickoff. Lee Carsley – who batted away fierce criticism over his call not to sing God Save The King – sat in the wrong dugout before the teams entered the pitch. And there was a security concern as ITV revealed a 'rogue fan' entered the pitch and posed alongside the England team.

Rice and Grealish were met with pantomime boos as was the England national anthem as a sold-out stadium drowned out the lyrics with the locals creating a volcanic noise to back their team in their first competitive game under Heimir Hallgrímsson.
