The secret weapon which can give Nottingham Forest the edge in crunch clashes

Striker Sam Surridge believes the “amazing” City Ground support can give Nottingham Forest an edge in a crucial few weeks of the season.

The Reds are continuing to fight on two fronts, still pushing for the play-offs and having progressed to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

They are on a run of four successive home games, with Reading the visitors on Saturday - in front of a sell-out crowd - followed by QPR and then Liverpool.

Surridge has revelled in the atmosphere generated on the banks of the Trent since signing from Stoke City in January, and hopes that can give Forest an extra push in crunch clashes coming up.

“The atmosphere is incredible,” said the front man.

“When I first came, we had Leicester here and it was amazing.

“I came here two or three years ago and it was one of the best stadiums I played at. It’s just an absolutely amazing atmosphere.

“It can definitely help us until the end of the season, with the atmosphere the fans create.

“Teams from the Premier League are used to playing in front of big crowds, but it’s a good actual atmosphere, rather than just being about the attendance. It’s very special.

“I’ve loved it here. It’s been absolutely amazing, coming here to a massive club.

“The lads were doing great before I came, so I’m just trying to chip in where I can.

“I’ve settled in now and it’s been great."

Surridge scored his first goal for the club on Monday, on his first start, to see off Huddersfield Town 2-1 and set up a last-eight meeting with Jurgen Klopp’s men in the cup.

“It’s going to be a special occasion for all of us against Liverpool, and for the fans,” the 23-year-old added.
