The Scotland fans dream England scenario as Tartan Army prepare for Euro 2024 qualification party against Auld Enemy

The Tartan Army could enjoy the dream scenario of celebrating qualification for next summer’s Euros during Scotland’s friendly with England on September 12.

The prospect of a full-house Hampden having a Germany 24 party while Steve Clarke’s men are taking on the Auld Enemy to mark the SFA’s 150th anniversary will become a reality if a few results fall into place on matchdays five and six - with all them having a real chance of happening. Scotland would have to beat Cyprus away on September 8, on the same night as Spain are expected to beat Georgia at home to set up the chance to qualify with three games to spare.

And for it to fall perfectly for Clarke four days later, Norway and Georgia - who have already drawn in Tbilisi - would have to share the points again in Oslo. Were that to happen, the score in the other Euro 2024 Group A qualifier that night between Spain and Cyprus wouldn’t matter - the Scots would be home and dry.

Clarke has insisted that he’s looking no further than the Cyprus match but admits he’s thrilled with the start his team, which has started a qualifying campaign with four straight wins for the first time, has made in the group. He said: “The next one in your head has got to be Cyprus because the main objective from this campaign is to qualify for Germany.

"All our focus will be on that and then we’ll deal with England. But we wanted as many points from the first half of the campaign so that we were in contention going into the second half, which is three difficult away games and a tough home match against Norway. So we knew we had to get a good points tally, but I don’t think anyone would have said we’d have 12. But we’ll take it.”
