The sanctions Red Bull may face if they've breached F1 budget cap, including losing 2021 points

Red bull could face any one of a host of sanctions if it is indeed proven that they exceeded the 2021 budget cap, including a potential loss of championship points from last year.

Reports gathered pace ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend that two teams were over the 2021 budget cap, with one said to be over it by a minor amount and the other reportedly over it by a significant amount.

It’s alleged that the two teams in question are Red Bull and Aston Martin, though that is not confirmed and nor is it clear which team is well over the cap and which team is just slightly over.

The FIA is expected to release the full reports on each team’s 2021 finances ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix next weekend, so we’ll soon find out just who has been doing what in terms of their spending last year, and if there are breaches we’ll then see sanctions come into place.

What those sanctions turn out to be remains to be seen, meanwhile, with the FIA able to pick from a number of different options depending on the size of the infringement but, in what would be the most dramatic turn of events, there’s a chance points are docked from the 2021 Drivers’ total Max Verstappen accrued, which, depending on the amount, could yet hand Lewis Hamilton the crown.

It’s all just talk at the moment, however, and here are just a few of the potential penalties we could see applied to any team that is found in breach of the 2021 budget cap:

As mentioned, the FIA is still finalising its assessment of every team’s financial data from the previous season, a process that began back in March, and the governing body felt the need to release a statement yesterday in a bid to try and quell the speculation:
