As a successful spin-off from the adored series Heartbeat, this engaging medical saga was set in the fictional St Aidan's Royal Free Hospital.

Spanning eight years from 2003 to 2011, The Royal delivered a total of 87 remarkable episodes that were a mix of humour and potent, tear-jerking storylines that kept viewers enthralled, leaving them wanting more as the treasured series wrapped up.

The show was brought to life across various Yorkshire locations, including the main hospital scenes in Whitby, along with Scarborough and Bradford. We take a look at what the cast members, who brought to life some of The Royal's most cherished characters, are up to today.

Several actors from the cast have secured a range of roles, including appearances on soaps, Midsomer Murders, and even performances of Shakespeare's work, according to Yorkshire Live. Making an appearance on ITV's This Morning, real-life couple Robert Daws and Linda Armstrong reflected fondly on the series and discussed their lives post-The Royal, reports the Mirror.

Reflecting on the series, Robert stated: "It really was about the details and the medical research as well because we in the hands of terrific people."

Following his stint on The Royal as Dr Gordon, Robert continued his acting journey, portraying Dr Watson in The Secret of Sherlock Holmes theatre production. His TV resume includes roles in Roger Roger, a time on Coronation Street, and performances as Dr Choake in Poldark. Robert also appeared in Midsomer Murders, Holby City, Casualty, and New Tricks.
