The 'reckless' menace to society behind bars for years after going for a drive

A drug dealer labelled a 'menace to society' crashed at speed before running from his abandoned car. Jack Harrison had been clocked by police driving a black Audi at high speed on Victoria Avenue, from Cecil Road, in Blackley.

Greater Manchester Police says the 28-year-old quickly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a bollard. Manchester Crown Court heard Harrison was driving without a seatbelt on at the time, but was still able to make off from the crash scene on foot.

Officers chased Harrison, who tried to evade arrest, but they were soon able to catch him. Harrison, of Gildersdale Drive, Blackley, was found guilty of dangerous driving and being in possession with intent to supply class A drugs, following the incident in the early hours of Saturday, August 24 last year.

He was also found to have been driving while disqualified and without due care and attention. Appearing for sentencing at Manchester Crown Court yesterday (January 24), Harrison was sentenced to six years and two months in prison, plus handed a driving ban of four years and eight months.

PC Baylee Ninian, of GMP City Centre, said: "Harrison’s actions were reckless, he had no consideration for other members of the public when he was driving his vehicle. Luckily, no one got hurt and I hope the community feel reassured following this sentence, having one less reckless driver in their local area where people are going about their lives."

The arresting officer, PC Louis Gevaux, added: "I’m delighted with this result and the brilliant work from the investigation team, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ultimately secure a result of such magnitude.
