The Rangers view on Brendan Rodgers Celtic return as Ibrox legend gears up for mouthwatering battle of the bosses

Brendan Rodgers' blockbuster return to Celtic could make the rebuilding task a tad tougher for Rangers.

But Kenny Miller reckons the Irishman’s Parkhead comeback has set up a battle of the Old Firm bosses that will be box office for Scottish football. The former Rangers and Celtic striker was part of the Ibrox side who were swept aside by Rodgers during his first stint in Scotland. And he believes the Hoops have made a major statement by sending for the 50-year-old following the departure of Ange Postecoglou.

It also sets up a must-see showdown between two gaffers who couldn’t be more different. Rodgers may not have aged a day but he’s now a grizzled veteran of the dugout, clocking up an incredible 689 matches as a manager. In the blue corner, Michael Beale has just finished his first season as a boss, with his start at QPR taking him back to Ibrox, where he was a coach under Steven Gerrard, but he’s still only been in charge on his own for just 51 games. Miller can’t wait to see how it plays out and he reckons the dugout showdown is going to be compelling viewing.

He said: “Take out the rivalry, it’s good for Scottish football to attract a manager of that calibre. It has the making of a really exciting season. The timing has been perfect with Brendan out of work and Celtic looking to make a big statement after Ange left. He will have been the number one candidate and they’ve gone out and got him.

“It’s a brilliant appointment for Celtic because he’s a proper elite manager. From a Rangers perspective, I’d rather he didn’t come back! Celtic have got the best possible guy for the job.
