The popular commuter area 40 minutes from Manchester named one of Britain's 'house price hotspots'

House prices in some parts of the country are bucking the market cooldown, according to Halifax. Property prices in certain areas of Britain have continued to rise sharply over the past year despite prices in the wider housing market plummeting.

Halifax said house price growths have been recorded in more than 70 areas, with 10 places in particular becoming 'house price hotspots'. This comes as analysis of Halifax’s house price index was carried out into more than 300 local authority areas in the three months of July, August and September, and was then compared with data covering the same period in 2022.

Of the 10 areas with the biggest house price rises is an area which lies just 40 minutes away from Manchester that is popular with commuters. Rossendale, a borough in Lancashire, covers the four main towns of Rawtenstall, Haslingden, Bacup and Whitworth along with several villages and surrounding rural areas.

Over the last year, the average house price across Rossendale has gone up by almost 7 percent, a rise of around £12,440. Despite house prices rising, the area is still considered to be affordable for first-time buyers and families, with the average property costing around £198,100 today.

Surrounded by open countryside, the borough is a favoured choice for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of Manchester. But with just a 40 minute drive town the M66, or an hour's train, its still easy access into the city centre for those needing to commute.
