The Peak District beauty spot named among UK’s most Instagrammable

Mam Tor is one of the Peak District’s best known beauty spots and a popular walk with hikers. Standing at 1,696ft tall, the hill offers incredible views across Castleton and Edale.

It’s not surprising then that it’s been listed among the UK’s most Instagrammable mountains, according to new research. Although not strictly a mountain, this impressive peak is sometimes called ‘Shivering Mountain’ as there are frequent landslips on its eastern face, caused by unstable lower layers of shale.

The hill was named the fourth most instagrammable ‘mountain’ in the UK, the only location in the Peak District to make the top ten. The study, conducted by holiday property experts at Wheelwrights, looked at hashtag data to crown the most photo-worthy mountains.

Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) in North Wales topped the list with 544, 313 posts, while Scotland’s Ben Nevis came in second with 283,297 posts. Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons came in third, with 188,216 posts.

Mam Tor racked up 135,483posts, placing it in fourth. The list is dominated by Lake District locations, which are a little further away than the Peak District but still within easy reach of Greater Manchester.
