The nine players that will leave Shrewsbury Town on a free this summer unless contracts are renewed

Shrewsbury Town are one club who can relax, and enjoy their final games of the League One season.

Sitting 16th in the current standings, 11 points clear of the relegation zone, and 27 adrift of the play-offs, Steve Cotterill’s side already know they will be playing third-tier football again next season.

As a result, the club are now able to start planning for the summer transfer window, which, as well as potential incomings, will also see a number of players depart the New Meadow.

While some of those may be sold elsewhere, there are others who could simply be allowed to leave the club for nothing when their current deals expire at the end of this season.

So here, we’ve taken a look at the players who, as things stand, will be leaving Shrewsbury for free when their current contracts with the club come to an end in the summer, according to Transfermarkt.

Josh Vela

Having joined Shrewsbury on a two-and-a-half-year deal back in January 2020, Vela is now approaching the end of his current deal, having made 92 appearances for the club to date.

It was reported back in January that Shrewsbury were in talks with the 28-year-old about a new contract, after he admitted he would like to stay at the club, although it remains to be seen if a deal will be agreed.

David Davis

Having previously spent a spell on loan with Shrewsbury in 2011, Davis rejoined the club back in January 2021 following his exit from Birmingham.

Since then, the midfielder has made just over 50 appearances for the club in all competitions, and there will soon be another decision to make on the 31-year-old’s future.
