The most powerful free-kick ever? Hulk's rocket vs Santos

Hulk is something of a cult hero among football fans.

Much of that is down to the fact that the Brazilian forward’s physique is close to that of a bodybuilder, with his ridiculous leg muscles meaning he can strike a ball insanely hard.

Down the years, Hulk has scored some absolute screamers with his deadly left peg and it’s hard to think of a player past or present that has possessed a harder shot.

Roberto Carlos is the only name that springs to mind, but even he cannot really lay claim to being superior to the former FC Porto man in the power department.

Hulk, who is now 35 years of age, is currently playing in his native Brazil with Atletico Mineiro, where he’s enjoyed a lot of success.

In the space of just one-and-a-half years, he’s won five trophies, scored 52 goals and contributed 16 assists. Not bad, eh?

So far this season, Hulk has bagged 17 goals from 22 appearances across all competitions and he came agonisingly close to making it 18 in Atletico Mineiro’s last outing against Santos on June 11th, which finished 1-1.

Sadly, the width of the post denied him a spectacular free-kick goal. But while the ball failed to cross the line, fans have still been left utterly amazed by the effort from the edge of the box.

Why is that? Well, as we previously stated, Hulk is renowned for hitting the ball crazily hard and on this occasion, he’s actually outdone himself from a power perspective.
