"The money is there" - Journalist makes exciting West Ham claim after multi-million pound bids

West Ham have the finances to strengthen their squad in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Hammers did not sign any players in January, but they were linked with some high-profile names, and O’Rourke has suggested that David Moyes could be given money in the off-season, if he wants it.

The January window was a frustrating one for West Ham as they failed to bolster their squad, but things could have been very different.

In the final week of the transfer window, it was reported that the club made bids to sign Leeds duo Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.

It is understood that the club were willing to pay club-record fees for both players, yet their offers were ultimately turned down by their Premier League rivals.

O’Rourke feels West Ham’s audacious double bid for Phillips and Raphinha proves that Moyes does have a significant amount of money to spend moving forward.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said: “Obviously, they showed their ambition by making bids for Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha in January, which were turned down. So, obviously, the money is there, because they had it in January to try and sign them.”

That does not tend to be Moyes’ style as he has built a tight-knit squad over the last couple of years without spending a great deal of money.

Thus far, it has worked as West Ham have established themselves as a club that can compete for European football with the best sides in the country.

However, it may be difficult for them to continue to keep pace with the rest of the top six if Moyes is not given money this summer.
