The Last Hours of Mario Biondo on Netflix: Who was Mario and what happened to him?

An Italian cameraman who died in unusual circumstances is the subject of Netflix's latest docuseries The Last Hours of Mario Biondo.

Mario, from Palermo, Italy was just 30 years old when he was found dead in his Madrid apartment in May 2013. The previous year, he married Spanish TV presenter Raquel Sánchez-Silva in a stunning ceremony - and their high-profile wedding was even covered by a number of Spanish magazines.

Friends and family featured in the docuseries claim that Mario enjoyed sharing in Raquel's fame, as the couple were often papped while out and about and attended red carpet events together. It was initially ruled by a court that Mario had killed himself after he was found dead in his home's library.

However his family didn't believe he would have taken his own life and thought it would would been very out of character for him. Theories and speculation mounted as to what might have happened to Mario, with some believing he could've been murdered.

Meanwhile his family fought hard to get their son's case reopened. While no one knows what happened on the day of his death, in 2022 the Italian justice system claimed Mario could have been murdered after all.

It was possible the scene of the alleged crime could have been tampered with to make it seem like Mario had committed suicide. However, a decade on there's still no conclusive evidence as to how he died. Mario's parents are still fighting the case.
