The Kieran Tierney reaction to Arsenal 'frustration' that has Steve Clarke convinced his best is yet to come

Steve Clarke is delighted that Kieran Tierney has clinched a loan move to Real Sociedad in a bid to get the game time he needs after being frozen out at Arsenal.

The Scotland defender is a mainstay of the national team but fell completely out of the picture at The Emirates but a season-long loan to the La Liga outfit, who are playing in the Champions League, is being hailed by Clarke, who said: “It’s good for Kieran. It’s a good move. He’s going to a good league, a good standard and a fantastic life experience, first and foremost, and also a fantastic professional experience to play in La Liga and still has Champions League football with Real Sociedad.

“I’ve spoken to Kieran and he’s in a really good place and hopefully he’ll get some minutes before we meet up. Kieran was frustrated (at Arsenal) but he was also very mature about it and very professional. I thought he handled the situation really well and now he’s got his move it’s down to Kieran to get back down to the business of playing football week in week out. And if he’s doing then I think – even though he’s been really good for Scotland – he can get even better in the future.”

Clarke is also looking with interest at Scott McTominay’s situation at Manchester United, with Bayern Munich understood to be mulling a loan move before the window shuts. The Scotland boss said: “Scott is in a similar situation to what Kieran was last year in that he’s not getting a full 90 minutes at Man United. But he’s getting minutes, he’s getting enough.

“I know Scott well. Top professional, so I know he’s going to be working as hard as he can to be as ready as he can be for the national team. If he gets a move and it materialises this week, then that can only be good for him.
