The incredible Rangers detail over Scott Arfield sub role that saw Gio blown away by Ibrox lieutenant

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has tipped his former Rangers assistant Dave Vos to land the top job at Ajax and has revealed that they once spent over an hour debating when the best time would be to introduce Scott Arfield as a substitute.

Vos is currently in charge of the Dutch giants reserve team Jong Ajax in the second tier, but has confirmed that he is in talks about moving up to take on the senior role. Ajax have endured a torrid campaign in the Eredivisie, and are on course to finish outside of the top four for the first time since the 1999/2000 season.

John van 't Schip has been placed in interim charge for the rest of the season, with the club on the hunt for a permanent appointment in the summer. And ex-Gers boss van Bronckhorst believes 40-year-old Vos has what it takes to make the step up having been highly impressed by his compatriot during their 12 months together at Ibrox.

Speaking to ESPN, he said: "I immediately had a good feeling with Dave. We first talked a lot about football and how he saw things. I got to know him well as a coach and as a person. I think us reaching the Europa League Final with Rangers really encouraged Dave about being a manager and it's clear that's where his ambition lies. At Rangers, he was responsible for the analysis of the opponent. He really got to the bottom of the Europa League opponents and worked out everything in detail.

"Where our chances lay and where the danger lay. He did that in all matches. The experience at Rangers in the Europa League and Champions League has helped him in its development.

"I once spent an hour and a half discussing with him about when Scott Arfield should come in as a substitute and who he should pass to when he came on! That's how committed he was
