The 'huge' Evan Ferguson to Celtic transfer benefit that comes with a career health warning

Don Goodman reckons Evan Ferguson joining Celtic would be "huge," but isn't convinced a move to the Scottish champions would be the best career move.

The Brighton striker burst onto the scene at 18 but has since lost his way a bit on the south coast and has been linked with a loan move away in January. The likes of Leicester City and West Ham have been mentioned, along with Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds and Sunderland.

And while Goodman accepts that Ferguson would be a great addition to the second tier clubs with loftier ambitions, he can't see him heading to the English second tier. The Premier League may still beckon for Ferguson, but the prospect of heading to Celtic wasn't entirely ruled out by Goodman, even if he sees it as a backwards career step. "I do think Evan Ferguson would be the perfect addition to Leeds United or Sunderland," the Sky Sports pundit told CoinPoker. "But do I think he'll end up in the Championship? No, I don't.

"Just 18 months ago, he was being lauded as a £100 million player. So I can't see him playing in the Championship no matter how big a club is. If a loan move is an option for him, you'd suggest a loan move to another Premier League club would be logical, as long as he gets minutes, which is key for him. Perhaps he could move to Europe.

"If I look at the quality of the Scottish Premiership, I don't think a transfer to the SPFL would be right for Evan Ferguson. However, he's an Irish lad who has previously admitted Celtic are his favourite Scottish team. That could be a little carrot which makes him consider a move to Parkhead.
