The historic three bedroom cottage in stunning canal side spot with a seriously tempting price tag

Generally speaking, the further properties are from big cities - the more bang you're likely to get for your buck.

According to the property website Rightmove, the average price of a property in Manchester over the last year was an eye-watering £302,396.

Rosebridge Lock Cottage in Ince, Wigan, comes with some of the most spectacular and peaceful views around. Dating back to the early 1800s, the cottage occupies a leafy spot right next to the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

Constructed at the same time the Leeds Liverpool Canal was built, this unique property underwent considerable restoration 15-years ago. What's more, the three storey property is easily accessible to Wigan town centre and comes with three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Ince-in-Makerfield, or Ince, is a town in Wigan that was once within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire before becoming part of the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan in 1974. It's thought the town's name, Ince, may be of Cumbric origin derived from ïnïs, meaning 'island' or, as is likely in this case, 'dry land'.

Of course one of the benefits of living outside of Manchester is the affordability of the properties, but what if you need to commute to the city for work? As well as being one of the cheapest areas to live in Wigan, Ince has good transport links and is close to Ince railway station on the Manchester to Southport line.
