The high street shops giving their staff a day off and staying closed this Boxing Day

Boxing Day is famous for one thing - its sales. Staff prepare for scores of people to descend upon city centres and shopping malls hoping to bag a bargain in one of the busiest days of the retail calendar.

But in this digital age, some businesses choose to do things a bit differently and stay closed on Boxing Day. Major retailers such as Poundland and M&S will be shut today, giving their staff a precious extra day off

In these stores, your bargain hunting will have to wait an extra day as they take advantage of the festive bank holiday.

Many shops still allow customers to shop online even if their physical stores are closed, meaning you're never far from those discounts.

But if you're planning on hitting the sales, here's a list of the shops whose doors will remain firmly closed this Boxing Day.

The discount retail giant are giving staff a day off on Boxing Day for the fourth year in a row today - and the same will apply to New Years Day.

Simon Wells, people director at Poundland said: "We really appreciate how hard our colleagues work during the year and closing the stores on these additional days over Christmas and New Year is our way of saying thank you to them – not least because this quarter has been especially busy with new store openings.

"Their efforts are appreciated and we hope they enjoy a well-earned break with family and friends over the festive period.”
