The Greater Manchester museum that’s perfect for a rainy day this half term

It can be tricky keeping the kids busy during the October half term, especially when the weather turns and outdoor activities are out of the question. But if you’re looking for something to do with your little ones on a rainy day you do have options.

The Science and Industry Museum has lots of free activities on offer this week, helping families stick to a budget while still having fun. Kids can try their hand at being an architect, engineer or inventor in its programme of activities exploring the future of the city.

From October 21 to November 5, the museum has let community groups and neighbours from across Manchester take over its galleries, creating fun interactive exhibitions. Kids can have the chance to reimagine the future of their local high street with a large pop-up installation of Openshaw.

Throughout the week there will be drawing and model making workshops with the help of architect Laura Sanderson looking at how you can design a high street and what skills you need to be an architect. Meanwhile Manchester Museum has dropped off its Rickshaw at the museum to show how travel can be sustainable, and kids are invited to create decorations for it using traditional South Asian crafting techniques in workshops run by artist Daya Bhatti.
