Many across the UK will be enjoying their Easter Monday bank holiday off today (April 1).
Some workers may even have been treated to a four-day weekend following the Good Friday bank holiday last week. Fortunately, there are a handful of additional bank holidays coming this year, which means even more time off work.
Bank holidays are a national public holiday and they are usually spread out across the calendar and include seasonal events such as Christmas, Easter and the New Year. On these days, most shops, schools, and businesses will close while public transport will operate on a different timetable.

The UK used to have 33 official holidays on the calendar, mainly consisting of saints days and religious celebrations. However, it was decided in 1834 that 33 holidays was too much, so a law was introduced to reduce the number.
Now, there are a total of eight bank holidays in England and Wales. There is only one other country in the world that has fewer bank holidays than us - Mexico - which has seven official public holidays.
Scotland has nine, while Northern Ireland gets 10 throughout the year.
