The five-mile 'magical walk' named among best in the Lake District

From beautiful waterside strolls to challenging hikes through the fells, the Lake District is home to dozens of walking routes with options to suit all abilities. There’s so many different choices when it comes to trails that it can be hard to choose the best one for you.

Now new research has revealed the 10 of the best walks in this stunning national park, ranging from easy to difficult. It coincides with National Hiking Day, which was celebrated earlier this month and encourages people to get outside, lace up their walking boots and explore the countryside.

Among the walks featured on the list, compiled by GO Outdoors, is a five mile route along the shore of Derwentwater. The route starts at Hawse End and follows the woodland trail along the Derwentwater shoreline, offering spectacular views along the way.

There are several picnic benches along the route where you can stop and take in the views. Taking around two and a half hours to complete, the trail is relatively flat making it manageable for most abilities.

Don’t be put off by the fact it’s nearly winter, either, as the scenery is just as beautiful at this time of year. One reviewer wrote on Tripadvisor: “It doesn’t matter what season, what weather or time of day, Derwentwater has a magical feel about it and it’s no wonder it’s often referred to as the Queen of the Lakes.”
