The Devil's Hour season 2 cast: Inside Peter Capaldi's life from tough school days to famous family ties

Peter Capaldi, the Scottish star known for The Devil's Hour, is back on screens as fans eagerly anticipate season two after a two-year break.

While The Devil's Hour fans had to wait patiently for its return, Amazon Prime Video rewarded their loyalty with a double series renewal following the debut season.

Subscribers can now binge-watch the entire second series of The Devil's Hour and delve into the life story of Peter Capaldi, who reprises his role as Gideon Shepherd.

Capaldi was born in April 1958 in Glasgow to Nancy and Gerald John Capaldi, stemming from a lineage that includes Italian, Scottish, and Irish roots.

An ice cream business kept his family busy, sharing a neighbourhood with the family of Armando Iannucci, famed creator of The Thick Of It; however, Capaldi and Iannucci were not acquainted during childhood.

Life for Capaldi in Scotland came with its challenges, with the actor recalling past "trauma" during his teen years.

"My adolescence was a kind of motorway pile-up. I wish I had known that one day the geek would inherit the Earth" Capaldi reflected in a discussion with The Mirror about his school experience.

"When I was at school, you couldn't draw and be into football too.

"If you were into art, then you were seen as an absolute pansy, and there was no way you'd be admitted to the guys' world of football.

"Believe it or not, one teacher used to call me a giant s*****c for not being able to play football."

During his school days, he joined the Antoine Players and performed in local theatre before attending the Glasgow School of Art.

Years later, the 66-year-old landed a job at a greeting card company, followed by a position at the BBC as a graphic designer after being rejected by a London drama school.
