The dad cataloguing and rating his town's 'quite spectacular' bins

Meet Andy Bailey, the amateur photographer who's on a mission to catalogue and rate his town's 'quite spectacular' bins. The 49-year-says he was inspired to create the 'Top Trumps' style game in Congleton, Cheshire, after noticing 'no two bins were the same', CheshireLive reports

He is now planning to produce a charity calendar and lead a walking tour of the town's finest bins. Days after Christmas, Andy had taken his four children to their local park when he began to notice the huge variety of bins, objects he calls an 'underappreciated' part of the street scene.

"They have this great big plastic bear bin, and then there was this great Victorian bin not too far away. As I made my way out of the park and was walking back home, I noticed no two were the same."

Andy began photographing the bins, sharing the images to his Instagram page, @bins_of_congleton, and rating them 'Top Trumps-style' on personality, pristine, placement, popularity and performance. He has since catalogued and rated 75 bins.

"They give the town a touch of charm," said Andy. "Some of them are quite spectacular."

"You get these occasional pebble dash ones that have a lovely copper-coloured rim around the top. They're a long way from the modern plastic bins."

Andy, a dad of four, said he felt it was important to catalogue the bins, as one day they may all be replaced and otherwise lost to time. He and his page - which now has a following of over 800 - has inspired residents of Preston, Leicester and Midlothian to start their own bin-appreciation pages.
