The conversation around Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund is only growing louder

Speaking in November, a confident Rasmus Hojlund declared he wasn't worried about not scoring a Premier League goal because he believed chances to find the net had been scarce.

Hojlund wasted two golden opportunities against Luton Town immediately after that interview was broadcast and it started to feel like a league goal would never come.

He finally ended that barren run when scoring against Aston Villa on December 26 and he celebrated at the Stretford End like the weight of the world had been lifted from his shoulders.

A brilliant photo of Hojlund screaming with his mouth wide open was captured and the image was relief personified. His failure to score a league goal had been on his mind, regardless of what he'd said.

Hojlund is only human and he would have liked to score in the league sooner, despite having no trouble finding the net in the Champions League with five goals in the group stage.

United knew exactly what they were getting when signing Hojlund in a deal worth £72million: a raw striker, with plenty of scope for improvement and someone who was signed with a view to the future.

His six goals in all competitions this season have been par for the course, although that hasn't stopped the conversation around him in some quarters of the media from growing louder each month.
