The cheapest petrol prices from Morrisons, Sainsburys and Tesco

Petrol and diesel prices remain high in the UK today, despite Chancellor Rishi Sunak announcing a 5p fuel duty cut as part of his Spring statement on Wednesday (23 March). Some forecourts are even charging drivers even more after the announcement, reports the Mirror.

One Esso forecourt in Brighton was charging 166.9p a litre today for unleaded petrol - the same as on Wednesday, before the Chancellor's announcement. But a litre of diesel at the same forecourt was 184.9p today - up 5p in 24 hours.

Meanwhile, a warning has been issued by the UK competition regulator that petrol prices could skyrocket at over 100 Morrisons forecourts. It's because private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice (CD&R) are taking over the supermarket in a £7 billion deal.

CD&R also owns petrol station giant Motor Fuel Group (MFG), and won a lengthy auction to buy Morrisons in October. MFG operates 921 petrol stations across England, Scotland and Wales under a number of different brands.

Petrol prices can vary depending on supply and demand. These prices were correct at the time of writing (Thursday, March 24) but could change quickly as gas
