The Canary Islands destination with no crowds voted better than Playa Blanca

When you choose a holiday destination, ideally it should be somewhere not too overcrowded and relatively peaceful. Especially if your aim is to get away from the crazy 9-5.

For Brits, a place with hot sunny weather is usually the prime choice. So areas like Canary Islands are a good spot for all-year-round holidays.

Which? has revealed holidaymakers’ favourite Canary Islands resorts, and one destination in Gran Canaria has beaten better-known destinations to be named as the best resort.

In a new Which? member survey, Puerto de Mogán came out as top with a score of 90%. Members were asked to rate their experiences of Canary Island destinations, which were based on eight criteria including the quality of the beach, scenery, food and drink, accommodation, and value for money.

A resort score was calculated based on overall satisfaction and likeliness to recommend. Puerto de Mogan was rated highly for its quaint marina, white-washed houses and labyrinthine old town.

The “peaceful, beautiful place” captured the hearts of visitors and scored five stars for accommodation and four-star ratings for food and drink, scenery and value for money - the only resort in the survey to do so. It also received three stars for peace and quiet.

Other destinations that followed with high ratings include Playa Blanca, the highest-rated Lanzarote resort which received a 77% rating. At the southern tip of the island, this resort offers a relaxed pace of life, with respondents describing it as “child- friendly” and “easy going”.

In third place, with 75% Costa Adeje, Tenerife, Costa Teguise, Lanzarote and Las Palmas, Gran Canaria took the spot.
