The brutal Steven Gerrard paradox laid bare as Jose Mourinho targeted to rock former rival's world

Former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been warned of the uphill battle he faces to get bums on seats to watch his middling Al-Ettifaq side.

But interest could be piqued as noisy neighbours Al Qadsiah are itching to make Jose Mourinho their next manager – weeks after winning promotion to the Saudi Pro League. Middle East football expert Ben Jacobs addressed the lopsided nature of support for clubs in Saudi with the 'big four' of Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli and Al-Ittihad able to fill out stadiums while others are met with crickets.

Jacobs – explaining the hunt for parity – added: "The other club to look out for is Al-Qadsiah, who are right next to Steven Gerrard's
