'The boy will shine' - Manchester United fans send James Garner message to Erik ten Hag

Manchester United fans are calling for Erik ten Hag to give James Garner his chance in the first team next season after his latest showing for Nottingham Forest.

The on-loan midfielder was in action again on Tuesday night as Forest kept their hopes of automatic promotion alive with a 1-0 win over Championship leaders Fulham. Philip Zinckernagel’s goal after 15 minutes was enough to hand the visitors their victory at Craven Cottage, and leave them three points off Bournemouth in second with three games remaining.

Much as they have throughout the second half of the season, United fans kept a close eye on Garner’s latest performance in the centre of the park. Many supporters have already called for the 21-year-old to be given his opportunity next season at Old Trafford.

With Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic both set to leave in the summer, midfield will be a priority for incoming manager Ten Hag to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window. Plenty of names have been linked to the Reds, including the likes of Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips.

Reports this week though have suggested Ten Hag will give Garner his chance to stake a claim for a place in his side. United fans want to make sure the Dutchman doesn’t ignore the midfielder next season.

With just three games remaining for Forest this season, Garner could still taste automatic promotion at the City Ground. Steve Cooper’s side travel to Bournemouth in their penultimate game of the season, which could well decide who joins Fulham in the Premier League next season, and who will have to go through the play-off route.
