The boy racer who killed a pregnant mum on M66 could be jailed for even longer

The jail sentence handed to a driver who killed a pregnant mum on the M66 could be increased. Adil Iqbal, 22, filmed himself driving at up to 123mph on the motorway before losing control and ploughing into Frankie Jules-Hough's car, which was on the hard shoulder after she'd pulled over because of a flat tyre.

Frankie, 38, from Chadderton, Oldham, was 17 weeks pregnant at the time and was killed during the collision. Her unborn baby, who had been named Neeve, did not survive.

Frankie's son Tommy, aged nine, and nephew Tobias, aged four, were also ‘very seriously injured’ in the horror crash, but her son, two-year-old Rocky, was miraculously unharmed. Last month, Iqbal was jailed for 12 years after he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Sentencing Judge Maurice Greene said of Frankie, an actress who previously appeared in Hollyoaks: “She was killed as a result of the most indescribably reckless driving by you, Adil Iqbal, leading to the devastation of a family.”

Now it has emerged that the 12 year sentence is being considered under the 'unduly lenient scheme'. Under the initiative, victims of crime, members of the public, and the Crown Prosecution Service can apply to the Attorney General, the Government's chief legal adviser, if they believe the sentences imposed by a judge are too low.

It is not clear who made the submission to the Attorney General's office in this case. The matter is currently under consideration and no decision has been made. The Attorney General's office has 28 days from the day the sentence was passed to review the case.
