The blood splattered pavement which shows the violence on Deansgate last night

There was quiet on Deansgate this morning after police sealed off the blood-splattered street.

Police were called to the thoroughfare in the early hours of this morning (May 3) to reports of an assault. The cordon extended from Quay Street to St John Street.

After the cordon was lifted, blood could still be seen outside one of the road’s many estate agents. It was a reminder of the events that took place just six hours before.

In all, three men have now been arrested for section 18 assault, Greater Manchester Police said in a statement. One man was hospitalised following the attack.

A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 3.45am this morning (Wednesday 3 May 2023) Greater Manchester Police were called to a report of an assault on Deansgate.

"Three males have been arrested on suspicion of a section 18 assault and one man has been taken to hospital with back and leg injuries.

"Enquiries are still ongoing at this stage.”

Staff at the estate agents told the Manchester Evening News that the cordon was lifted at roughly 8:30am. By 9am, the road returned to normal and traffic was flowing again.
