Paul Heckingbottom’s side came excruciatingly close to reaching the play-off finals having earned a comeback from 3-1 down against Nottingham Forest.

The Blades ended their play-off semi-final tie with the Reds 3-3 on aggregate but a 3-2 loss on penalties saw the club eliminated.

That means Heckingbottom will be preparing for life in the Championship once again this summer.
