The ‘beautiful’ beach two hours from Manchester you’ve probably driven past without realising it’s there
It’s no secret that the coastline of North Wales is home to brilliant beaches. Rhyl, Llandudno and Conwy are firm favourites for day trips from Manchester, while the sandy coves of Anglesey and the Llyn Peninsula are popular for longer trips away.
Nestled in the shadow of Penmaenmawr mountain, Llanfairfechan beach is equally worthy of visitors but doesn’t get quite the same level of attention. In fact, you’ve probably driven past it before without thinking to stop there.
However, it’s certainly worth it if you do. This gorgeous beach has views across to Anglesey and Puffin Island out to sea, or if you turn to look inland you’ll spot the foothills of Snowdonia.

You couldn’t really ask for a more breath-taking setting for a beach that’s only a two hour drive from Manchester. It even has its own train station should you prefer to travel that way.
Llanfairfechan is a pebble beach, but it gives way to golden sand when the tide goes out. It’s a popular spot for swimming, surfing and canoeing, as well as picnics on sunny days.
The town maintains its original Victorian charm, with a large model boating lake and a long promenade backed by colourful houses and B&Bs. You won’t find noisy arcades or crowded amusement parks here, instead expect a quieter and more old fashioned seaside experience.
By the boating lake is a large grassed area which is great for picnics, along with a playground for kids. Further along the beach is a skatepark too.
On the edge of the beach is Beach Pavilion Café, housed in a Victoria pavilion. It’s a great spot for lunch and serves ice cream too. Or head to Seagrass by the promenade for brunch-style dishes and fish and
