The award-winning 'hobbit house' you can visit in North Wales
Hidden among the rolling green hills at the southern edge of the Snowdonia National Park is a holiday home with a difference. With a round door frame carved into the landscape and a porthole window peeking out through the grass, Nant y Garnedd offers guests the chance to stay in their own hobbit house.
Just like in Lord of the Rings, this unique holiday home is built into the grassy hillside - so it's completely hidden from view if you approach it from behind. Yet from the front it looks out onto incredible views of the south Snowdonia mountains.
Nant y Garnedd has been named UK and Ireland’s Best Holiday Let by Sykes Holiday Cottages, and with an eye-catching design it’s easy to see why. Step inside the house the first thing you’ll notice is the completely cylindrical interior which feels refreshingly different.

Contemporary furnishings help ensure the inside space feels light and airy with lots of daylight flooding in - it’s actually hard to believe the house is partially underground. There’s an open-plan living space with a kitchen, dining area and a comfy sofa.
At one end is the bedroom with a king-sized bed, and at the other end is the bathroom with a walk-in shower. Outside there’s a private garden with a patio, sheltered decking and a wood-fire hot tub, where you can relax and enjoy the views.
There’s a second identical hobbit house and they both sleep four people in total. The location makes them an ideal base for exploring the Snowdonia National Park. Nant y Garnedd has only been operating for four months but has proven popular with guests and is already booked up until the end of the year.
