The Arsenal and Tottenham Premier League stars who became ridiculously rich after quitting football

Who hasn’t dreamed of one day becoming a footballer and representing both club and country on the pitch at some point in their childhood? Most of us eventually accept our place in the stands, but for the select few who make it in the beautiful game, their dreams begin to come true at a very early age.

Premier League footballers generally earn enough money in their playing careers to retire by their mid-thirties, around about the same time their bodies start to give in. After retirement from football, many continue to pursue a career in coaching, management or punditry, while others fizzle away into the background.

However, others take the opportunity to invest the capital they made while playing into new ventures. Two players who have done this are former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini and ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega.

Flamini and Vega may have played for two rival North London clubs during their time in football, but following their retirement, they both very much shared the same mentality. Both got into the world of business, and both have been successful in doing so.

Since hanging up his boots for the last time in 2019, 38-year-old Frenchman Mathieu Flamini has been gaining ground in the field of biotechnology. He actually started getting involved long before his retirement, co-founding GF Biochemicals as far back as 2008 with his business partner Pasquale Granata.

GF Biochemicals is the first ever company to mass-produce sustainable oil substitute levulinic acid, which is used in the production of a biodegradable herbicide used in South Asia. It is also used in cosmetics, fragrances and perfumes. The company, which employs around 80 people, is estimated to be worth well over £10bn.
