The £5.99 school shoes parents say will last the year

School shoes can be one of the biggest expenses for families at this time of year, but perhaps splashing out isn't always necessary.

Parents have been praising a retailer's £5.99 shoes, saying they have always lasted the school year for their children.

The comments came in response to a post on the budgeting 'Feed your family for about £20 a week' Facebook page when mum Lorna shared a photo of Aldi's range and said: "I saw these kids leather school shoes for just £5.99 in Aldi! I think these are fab for young kids. Another said: "I brought these last year for a just in case pair and they lasted the longest out of all of her shoes. The front of them never got scuffed the only problem after months and months was it was peeling away by the Velcro."

And a third added: "I swear by Aldi shoes for my son and daughter. Only ones I’ve had that last more than a few months and don’t scuff easily…. Unfortunately I can’t get my son’s size in them anymore and this will be the last year for my daughter."

While not everyone agreed, with others saying 'you need to invest as you get what you pay for' with school shoes, it's not the first time that Aldi shoes have been praised.
