The 14p food item that will stop spiders invading your home as mating season begins

For many people in the UK, spider season is a dreaded time of year. Arachnophobes should be aware that spiders are set to invade homes as their mating season commences soon.

The eight-legged creatures are set to linger around until October, but thankfully, experts have offered some helpful advice. The team at Magnet Trade have revealed that it's primarily the kitchen and bathroom that spiders are attracted to, reports the Express.

Paul Strong, a store operations manager at Magnet Trade, explained: "Like all species, spiders need water and moisture to survive." So, how can we bid farewell to these pesky spiders? It appears one of the tips the experts have offered costs just 14p.

"From sinks and dishwashers to the warmth given off from appliances, it's the kitchen and bathroom that create the perfect moist environment to draw them in. Although they are mostly harmless, we don't want crawlers contaminating our food or creeping up on us in the bathroom," Paul says.

"Supermarkets charge anything from £5-£11 for spider repellent. Using natural tricks to do the work for you is not only cheaper, but the chemical-free method makes your home look and smell amazing."

Paul therefore suggests rubbing lemon peels over the windowsills: "This is one of the easiest and most effective tricks, costing around 14p compared to a £10 ready-made spider repellent," he says.

"Rub lemon peels all over the windowsills or anywhere spiders tend to perch, such as on skirting boards and bookshelves. The strong citrus scent will repel them away and give your home a lovely fresh scent".
