“That tells you” – Carlton Palmer shares thoughts on Cardiff City and West Brom loan agreement

Cardiff City have signed West Brom defender Cedric Kipre on a season-long loan, with the 25-year-old unable to see regular game time at The Hawthorns during his time with the club thus far.

The former Wigan Athletic defender, who has signed as Steve Morison’s 12th signing of the summer window at the Cardiff City Stadium, will be hoping to see regular minutes in South Wales.

Kipre appeared 14 times for the Baggies during the 2021/22 campaign and will be hoping to emerge as part of Morison’s starting plans during the upcoming season.

Speaking to Football League World about the move and whether it makes sense, Carlton Palmer said:

“Yeah, I think it’s a good move for both parties. I mean, he’s obviously not in Steve’s plans, so it makes sense for the club to move him on.

“He’s been on loan before, he hasn’t gone on a permanent deal.

“He’s just gone on a season-long loan. So that tells you where West Brom and Steve Bruce place him in terms of their long-term thinking and plans.”

The verdict

A player who has all the necessary abilities to succeed in the Championship, it is great to see Kipre presented with an opportunity like this.

Possessing some strong central defensive options at The Hawthorns, if he was to have remained in the Midlands, it is likely that he would have endured a similar season to the last.

Now he has a chance to play regular football and be part of an exciting Cardiff team who will be ambitious about what the new season could possibly hold.

As Palmer says, it is a move that will work out for all.
