Tesco launches new limited edition sandwich that's the 'next best thing' to a classic English favourite

Tesco has launched a new sandwich that's taking shoppers by storm. The supermarket is now selling a ham, egg and chips sandwich for £3, inspired by the old English favourite, the chip butty.

The tasty treat consists of white bread filled with beechwood-smoked ham, egg mayo, crisps flavoured with salt and vinegar, and ketchup. Shoppers are going mad for it, with one saying: "I'm no fan of supermarket sandwiches, but I'm on a mission to get one of these now."

Another pleased customer said: "It's the next best thing to being down the caff. It tasted great! Have it with builder's tea! " Some people, however, were less thrilled about having cold potato in their sandwich, querying: "Who thought this would be a good combo?"

The sandwich packs a punch with 421 calories, containing over a quarter of your daily recommended salt intake (1.65g) and nearly a fifth of your recommended fat intake (13.1g).

Tesco Clubcard holders can also bag the sandwich as part of a £3.40 meal deal. Sarah Bryer, the creative genius behind the sandwich at Tesco, believes it could become a breakfast classic.

She revealed: "We know how well loved the chip butty is with the nation, plus we have seen a massive surge of people admitting their guilty pleasure of a crisp sandwich on social media, combined with British pub favourite ham, egg and chips. The mini salt and vinegar fries give a crunch to the Beechwood smoked ham and chunky, rich, egg mayonnaise", reports Birmingham Live.

The sandwich is from a brand new "global cuisine" collection, which also includes a Buffalo Chicken and Blue Cheese Wrap, and a Korean Inspired Spicy Gochujang Chicken Sub.
