Terrifying footage shows smoke filling street as hooded youths explode fireworks next to houses and cars

Terrifying footage showed smoke filling a street on Bonfire Night as hooded youths let off fireworks outside family homes.

Police and fire crews were called to Cardinal Street in Cheetham Hill on Tuesday evening (November 5) to reports of teenagers throwing fireworks and firing them at houses and cars.

The pyrotechnics could be seen exploding in the empty street, with one even launched towards a window, causing a hole to shatter on the ground floor.

Video footage shared by EM React Response Services, whose Fire Response teams were assisting crews at the scene, showed a group of hooded youths walking through the residential area and haphazardly letting off the flares in all directions.

The fireworks could be seen exploding beside cars and homes, with smoke filling the air. Martin Brown, from EM React, described the scenes as being 'like a warzone'.

"It was more like a warzone than Bonfire Night," he said. "It's getting worse every year. Unfortunately, Bonfire Night sees us responding to a range of incidents alongside the fire service."

The scenes in Cheetham Hill were just a picture of the mayhem emergency services faced across the region on Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police shared their own horrifying bodycam footage of officers arriving on Cardinal Street. Officers narrowly avoided injury as the fireworks exploded in the street.

Elsewhere, there were scenes of disorder that erupted in Gorton and Abbey Hey - with a car set alight on an illegal bonfire and fireworks similarly aimed towards emergency crews.
