Tent in place and police seal off town centre street as man rushed to hospital with head injury

Police have cordoned off a Greater Manchester town centre road this afternoon after a man was rushed to hospital with a head injury.

Officers were called to reports of the concern for the welfare of a man in his 50s on Waterloo Road, Stalybridge at around 5am on Sunday (September 24).

The man was rushed to hospital but is believed to be in a stable condition. The cause of the injury is currently unclear and officers remained on the scene for a number of hours as investigations were carried out.

An evidence tent was also in place beside a police car on Sunday afternoon with a number of officers continuing to remain at the scene after the cordon had been removed.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "GMP responded to reports of the concern for the welfare of a man on Waterloo Road, Stalybridge at around 5am on Sunday 24 September 2023.

"Officers attended the scene and found a man in his 50s who was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury. He remains in a stable condition with the injuries sustained thankfully not believed to be life threatening."
