Ten minutes with Ecstar Suzuki’s Alex Rins

Ecstar Suzuki’s Alex Rins started the season in the most consistent way since he arrived in the premier class of MotoGP.

At this moment he runs second in the standings tied on points with the championship leader. The Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez could end up being a truly special occasion for him.

How is it like to become co-leader of the championship? ”I’m happy to return to Spain and the fact of having a Grand Prix with the fans on the stands. Due to the circumstances of the Covid, in the last two years racing just looked like a pre-season testing at an empty circuit.”

Have you noticed something different at Jerez? “We were cycling around the track and have already noticed the warmth of the fans, the noise of the motorcycles, the caravans, the bonfires. I am happy that fans can come back to the circuit. In the end, seeing a full Grand Prix makes me happy, the fact of going through Nieto and Peluqui corners and see a full pelouse, people in the paddock.”

Which is the circuit you like most and why? “The answer I will give is conditioned by results. Circuits that I really like are Silverstone, Austin… I also liked Portimao a lot and Jerez… I’m not the typical rider who has one or several circuits where he says about “I don’t want to race here”. I like to race at Spanish tracks because of the fans. They’re full of fans and you feel the warm. Here in Jerez it is always nice to race, also Portimao, Phillip Island…”

Which is the worst Grand Prix for you in terms of food? “I would say those outside Europe. There, when we have a event or something you usually eat a little worse in the sense that you do not have a Mediterranean diet.
