Teenage boy killed in 'serious collision' as road taped off for hours

A teenage boy has been killed in a 'serious collision' in Tameside, the Manchester Evening News understands.

Denton Road in Audenshaw has been taped off for several hours following the crash this afternoon. The Manchester Evening News understands that a teenage boy has sadly died in the incident.

Images from the scene show floral tributes left in memory of the victim, who has not been named, with dozens of posts on social media also paying tribute. Denton Road remains shut between the junctions with Shepley Road and Stanhope Street this evening as police officers guard the cordon.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing an air ambulance land in the area following the incident. People have been asked to avoid the area while the road is closed. Bus services have also been diverted as a result.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Emergency services are currently responding to a serious collision on Denton Road in the Audenshaw area of Tameside. Road closures are in place and members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

"Anyone with information should contact investigators via 0161 856 4741 quoting 1484 17/09/22. Information about crime can also be shared anonymously via the independent charity – Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
