Team Saudi steps onto the Asian stage at opening ceremony for 6th Asian Beach Games

RIYADH: Team Saudi took part in the official opening ceremony for the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, on Wednesday evening.

Jiu jitsu athlete Mohammed bin Huraimel carried the Saudi flag to lead the team in the traditional parade of athletes. The evening also included a program of cultural performances reflecting Asia’s diversity and highlighting the character and heritage of the coastal host city.

Prince Fahad bin Jalawi, vice president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and Abdulaziz Baeshen, the committee’s secretary-general and CEO were also in attendance at the ceremony, which took place at Yasha Park Theater.

Other dignitaries included Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, president of the Olympic Council of Asia; State Councilor Shen Yiqin; and Liu Xiaoming, the governor of Hainan Province and president of the Sanya 2026 Organizing Committee.

The competitions get underway for Team Saudi on Thursday, beginning with jiu jitsu. In addition, the Kingdom’s beach soccer team will face Thailand in the group stage, while the beach volleyball team will take on Palestine and Qatar.
