Team GB Josh Kerr's famous brother and bitter rivalry with Olympic champion

Team GB are vying for another medal in the Paris Olympics as Josh Kerr takes on his arch rival Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the highly anticipated 1500m final.

Kerr, 26, is determined to improve on the bronze medal he won at the Tokyo Games and to beat Ingebrigtsen who is the current Olympic champion.

The pair recently faced off in their Olympic semi-final, with the Norwegian finishing ahead of Kerr, but it was at last summer’s World Championships that their feud began.

Kerr narrowly won gold by 0.27 seconds but felt disrespected by Ingebrigtsen in the aftermath following claims that he had been suffering from a virus, the Mirror reports.

Today’s (Tuesday) 1500m showdown is expected to be tension filled - mainly due to two rivals going head to head after a year of back-and-forth words exchanged and barbs in the press.

Speaking ahead of tonight’s final, Kerr said: “They [fans] should be expecting one of the most vicious and hardest 1500m this sport has seen for a very long time.

“I am ready to go after it. I think we all are. There has been a lot of talk and words over the last 12 months, even two years. I am looking to settle that and give it my best performance. I will show that in the final.”

The reigning 1,500-metre world champion- who set a new indoor two mile world record in March - finished an agonising third at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where he was just seven-tenths of a second from claiming the gold won by Ingebrigtsen.

Aside from his bitter rivalry with Ingebrigtsen, Kerr, who will be joined in the final by Team GB’s Neil Gourley, has also become well-known for donning sunglasses in his races.
