Team England upgraded to 4x100m relay Commonwealth Champions as Nigeria disqualified due to Anti-Doping Rule Violation

Team England women's 4x100m relay squad have been upgraded to Commonwealth Champions in Birmingham following the disqualification of Nigeria. Nigeria were the original winners of the race but have been disqualified over an Anti-Doping Rule Violation. Ad Asha Philip, Imani-Lara Lansiquot, Bianca Williams and Daryll Neita made up the Team England squad that completed the race in 42.41 seconds.

Nigeria came out on top in the race, but confirmation of Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha’s disqualification means they were stripped of the win. The outcome means Team England retains the title as Commonwealth champions.

They last won the event at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in 2018 where Philip and Williams also featured. Philip, now a double Commonwealth champion, said it meant a lot to her to be able to bring home gold for England. “I am delighted to become a Commonwealth Games Champion from the 2022 Games,” she said.

“It's truly an honour to represent my country and the Birmingham Games were so awesome with a home crowd. «This means a lot to me, as it is my second Commonwealth Games Gold. I have been blessed to achieve so much in my career, and I can't wait to achieve even more in the seasons to come.
