Teacher from Salford to stand trial accused of having sex with 15-year-old pupil
A teacher from Salford is set to stand trial accused of having sex with a 15-year-old pupil.
Rebecca Joynes has been charged with two counts of sexual activity with a child. The 28-year-old appeared at Manchester Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday).
Dressed in a beige jacket, white top and black trousers, she spoke only to confirm her name and to enter not guilty pleas to both charges. The allegations relate to a boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - and date back to 2021.

The charges state that the defendant 'intentionally touched' the boy 'not reasonably believing he was 16 or over, the touching being sexual'. The court heard that Joynes had initially been suspended from her role but was no longer employed by the education authority concerned.
School officials sat and watched proceedings from the public gallery. Joynes was granted bail on the conditions that she does not contact any prosecution witnesses and has no unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.
The date of her trial, expected to last four days, was set for next May. Judge Rachel Smith warned Joynes that she would also be required to attend two further hearings in the case in October.
