Taylor Harwood-Bellis heaps praise on Man City legend Vincent Kompany

Taylor Harwood-Bellis has heaped praise on former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany for his development on loan at Burnley.

The England Under-21 captain is away for the European Championships this summer after a remarkable campaign with the Clarets. Harwood-Bellis played a key role as Kompany's side comfortably won the Championship title, earning promotion to the Premier League.

The 21-year-old will return to City this summer as a more rounded player after his time at Turf Moor. Harwood-Bellis was keen to credit Kompany for his role in his improvement and believes it will help him on the international stage too.

"I feel like it’s the most I have improved as a player on and off the pitch," he said before the Three Lions' opener against Czech Republic. "The detail the manager has put in is incredible.

"It's helped me massively playing for England. It's helped me adapt to playing with players and helping others to what they’re good at."

“I think it was an advantage in terms of knowing how he wants to play, but only that because if I’m not up to it then I’m not going to play - it’s as simple as that," he explained last month. "He wants the best team and the people that are on form doing exactly what he wants are going to play and I know that which is why I’ve got to come in here every day and be the best I can be.

“There are no days off with him and if he sees you slacking off he’ll notice it within 10 minutes, he’s like that, but it’s good for everybody
